Job Summary
Assists in providing optimal patient care in the Labor and Delivery Operating Room by organizing, preparing, and maintaining the sterile field and handing instruments. Stocks the Operating Rooms and Birthing Rooms, sets up delivery carts, and assists with
delivery process.

Job Description
Essential Functions:
- Manages operating room and labor room supplies and equipment to promote safe patient care environment. Ensures supplies are available for deliveries and rooms are stocked appropriately. Assists with clean up of delivery room after delivery.
- Assists the physicians as first scrub. Provides safe care by maintaining sterile field in the operating room and questioning situations that are of concern. Follows through with appropriate intervention after questioning the situation. Alerts supervisor of any safety or patient care concerns.
- Willing to assist with other roles through formal cross training, such as Health Unit Clerk, to provide flexibility in staffing and to help ensure safe patient care.
- Introduces self to all patients on the Labor and Delivery unit through rounding. Promotes positive customer experience in all interactions.
- Maintains competencies and educational requirements in appropriate timeframe.
- Supports and assists with patient care activities in collaboration with the nurse. Informs the RN of pertinent changes in patient status.
- Demonstrates the ability to identify an emergency situation and initiates appropriate responses.
- Completes documentation accurately and in a timely manner according to policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Participates as an active member of the team, providing back up during staff illnesses and sick leave. Assures continuity of patient care through communication with other team members.
- All other duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements
Required:
Education – High School Diploma/GED Equivalent in General Studies
Preferred:
Experience – 1+ years of Nurse Aide/Assistant Experience; 1+ years of Operating Room Experience; 1+ years of Patient Care Experience
Physical Requirements: Very Heavy work – exerting over 25 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or more than 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force occassionally (up to 33% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances. Requires the ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours), which may include night shifts or occasional irregular hours.
